Questions fréquentes

Is MD5 secure?

No. MD5 and SHA-1 are cryptographically broken and should never be used for security. They're still useful for non-security checksums (file integrity, cache keys).

Which hash should I use?

For passwords, don't use these - use bcrypt or argon2. For file integrity, SHA-256 is the modern default.

Is my input uploaded?

Never. Hashing runs entirely in your browser via the Web Crypto SubtleCrypto API.

Can I hash a file?

This tool takes text input. For files, most operating systems have a built-in checksum command (shasum on macOS/Linux, CertUtil on Windows).
