Em dashes (—) are a strong tell that a piece of text was written or heavily edited by an AI model like ChatGPT or Claude. Swapping them for hyphens or commas makes the writing read more like a person.
What is the difference between -, –, and —?
'-' is a plain hyphen (used in compound words). '–' is an en dash (used for ranges like 2020-2024). '—' is an em dash (used for interruptions or asides). This tool targets em dashes by default and can optionally also replace en dashes.
Does this tool run any AI?
